The long and short of it, there’s a perfect brush for your hair. The brush that will make your hair behave perfectly, remain healthy and look like you just stepped out of the hair salon. These tips will help you choose the perfect brush for your hair.
Choose the Right Hair Brush Size
If you have short hair, choose a small hair brush so you will have optimum control when styling hair and can give detailed attention to every strand of hair. Choose a large brush for long hair (especially round brushes, a small round brush and long hair is a tangled mess just waiting to happen!). A large flat brush works best for general purpose brushing, detangling and finishing.
Choose the Right Brush Body
To get the right hair body, you have to choose the right brush body first. A cushioned brush body provides gentle brushing for people with tender heads and/or brittle hair by contouring to scalp. A hairbrush with a cushioned body makes it almost impossible to brush hair too roughly. A brush with a vented body works well for hair styles that are created during blow drying - the vented body allows for air circulation.
Brush Bristles Make the Difference
Natural boar’s hair bristles work best on fine to normal hair (when the hair is dry) because the boar’s hair bristles eliminate static electricity. Brushes with synthetic bristles are stiffer than the real thing and don’t get soft when wet, so they can be used on thicker hair.
Plastic or metal prong-type bristles are best for thick or coarse hair. These types of bristles are rough on the hair, so look for a brush with a cushioned body and brush hair gently. As a side note to healthy looking hair - always use a wide-toothed comb on wet hair. When hair is wet, it is at it’s most weakest stage and brushing wet hair causes breakage.
Price Does Matter
Bargain-priced hairbrushes are no bargain if they scratch the scalp and break hair, and that’s exactly what most cheap hairbrushes do. A high quality hairbrush with all the perfect features for your hair will cost between twenty to fifty dollars, but is well worth the investment. A top quality hairbrush will last ten years or more and costs far less than the amount of other hair care products that you will purchase over the same amount of time.
